International rivalry will ignite in the National Teams events to be contested in both the Youth and Open categories. The interclub competitions will see athletes representing their home clubs from all around the world.

Ron Rankin AM, LWC 2024 Organising Committee Chair and Project Director, said excitement was building steadily just three months away from the event.

“We’re in the final straight now and I can assure the people of Queensland and the Gold Coast that the global lifesaving community cannot wait to head to our shores in August,” he said.

“Now that the Australian Championships have wrapped up, we’ve seen the Australian Lifesaving Team selected and entries continue to come in from around the country and across the world.”

The 18-day program features pool events at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre and beach events hosted at Kurrawa. The beach events feature the majority of events many associated with surf lifesaving carnivals with the inclusion of surf boats and IRB (inflatable rescue boat) racing.

With thousands of athletes and support personnel heading to the event, the local economy is certain to benefit from an upswing in accommodation and dollars spent on tourism and hospitality.

“Excitement is building with less than 100 days to go until the Gold Coast welcomes the biggest lifesaving event on the globe,” said Mayor Tom Tate

“The Lifesaving World Championships attracts the most elite athletes with 7000 competitors, 12,000 supporters and the flags of 50 countries flying high from Kurrawa to the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. What an honour for our city to host this prestigious global event.”

The Lifesaving World Championships 2024 is supported by Experience Gold Coast and the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland.
